Does Your Hardwood Floor Need Cleaning or a Screen and Recoat?
Deep cleaning removes residue, embedded soil, and grit from your hardwood floor. It removes what mopping leaves behind and brings back the finish's existing appearance. Deep cleaning does not repair the finish itself. It does not remove scratches, dents, or gouges, and it does not repair damage to the wood.
A screen and recoat is the next step up from deep cleaning. The top layer of your floor is a protective coat of polyurethane, and a screen and recoat applies a fresh coat of it. The existing coat is screened, and the new coat is applied over it. We recommend this service about every five years to maintain the protective layer.
A floor qualifies for a screen and recoat when the blemishes are in the polyurethane coat itself, not in the wood. Minor scratches in the coat are corrected by this process. If the floor has deep scratches, gouges, or dents in the wood, a screen and recoat will not correct them. In those cases the options are a sand and refinish, or in some instances replacement.

Acrylic Wax Removal for Hardwood Floors
Some hardwood floors develop a hazy, cloudy film that does not respond to any cleaning. The floor looks dull, shows every scuff mark, and can feel slightly sticky. Mopping makes it look worse instead of better, and the haze returns within days of every cleaning.
The cause is usually acrylic wax. Many floor polish products sold in stores promise to make hardwood floors shine, and homeowners and housekeepers apply them with good intentions. Each application leaves an acrylic coating on the floor. That coating is not compatible with a polyurethane finish. It builds up layer over layer, turns cloudy, holds onto dirt, and cannot be removed by regular cleaning. The problem is in the wax layer, not in your floor.
